DPC Survey Details

STEM BUILD at UMBC is part of the Diversity Program Consortium, a national effort funded by the National Institutes of Health to improve the educational and career success of students and faculty. This study will help us identify the best strategies to support and encourage success for the next generation of students.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) serves as the coordinating center for this national effort and is in charge of collecting information about the experiences and career choices of a variety of students. It is important to this study to compare students at UMBC to those at other institutions.

Study participants give permission for UMBC to share information from their student records such as demographics, courses taken and grades received in those courses with the UCLA team.  A detailed list of this information is as follows:

For Students:  Campus ID, name, gender, race/ethnicity, high school, ZIP code of high school,  permanent address with ZIP code, SAT and/or ACT scores, high school GPA, enrollment status, major(s), completed credits, class standing, cumulative GPA, degree(s) earned with concentration(s), degree field, and science courses (course title, credits, grade, and term enrolled).

For Faculty:  DEMOGRAPHICS (Key Variable: Faculty ID, Name, or Email):  Gender, race/ethnicity, academic rank, department affiliation, hire date, type of appointment (FT or PT), appointment basis (9/10 months, 11/12 months, other), administrative position, last sabbatical date; TEACHING HISTORY – starting 2013-2014 AY by academic term (Key Variable: Faculty ID, Name, or Email AND Academic Term): Course ID, course title, type of course, total enrollment; EXTERNAL FUNDING HISTORY – starting 2013-2014 AY by Funding Proposal  (Key Variable: Faculty ID, Name, or Email AND Funding Proposal): Academic term, funded grant title, name of funding organization, award dates, amount of award (total directs).
